Snow Birds

Well we arrived here in Brunswick Ga. safe and sound. At 5:45am on Sunday morning, we left a cold 25 degrees in Hanover Pa. and arrived 4:45 pm to 62 degrees and sunny in exactly 11 hours. The drive is rather boring, but we make a lot of pee and stretch stops so that helps break it up. What a difference a day makes, we are settled in, unpacked, groceries bought, cable, phone and internet up and running, we waste no time! Today was absolutely beautiful, 66 degrees and sunny, I just heard freezing rain for Hanover tonite! Yikes, we got out just in time. The entrance into the Villa's

The Church Lady's Birthday

Yesterday was Kelly's 41st Birthday, hope she don't mind me telling her age. Boy, it makes me feel old, being her Mom and everything! Anyway, we had a little family celebration at my house last night, just pizza, ice cream and cupcakes. It was also a farewell for Jer and I, since we are leaving for the winter. We gave our hugs and kisses and I put on a happy face, its hard to leave them for 3 months. It's kind of a bitter sweet feeling. On one hand I am glad to be getting away from this cold weather and on the other, I know I am going to miss them soooooooo much! This is one time that I hope the time goes by fast. We will be busy with the kids and grand kids down south and I am really looking forward to seeing them. So happy we have family there. You will be seeing them on my blog real soon.

A Bloggers Breakfast

If you read ipost blog this morning you know that she was meeting up with two other bloggers for breakfast, they were, The church lady and Janis .We also had another guest kirsten, join us. Typical of a bunch of women, we had a gab session for 2 1/2 hours. In between eating our breakfast we talked and talked. Since there were three Bloggers present (was suppose to be four but count your blessings. could not make it) the main topic was of course "Blogging". We also talked about cameras, since ipost is a great photographer, she gave us some good tips. Then the conversation moved on to family, since we are related. All of us had our camera's with us and took the same pictures of each other. Each of us will do a blog on this same thing, so it should be interesting to read the different stories. This is my version!

Changing Places

Well this week is count down time for Jer and I to head down south for the winter. We have been blessed to be able to do this for the past ten years. We had a place in Daytona Beach for 13 yrs, but four hurricanes hit us in Aug of 2004, so we decided to recover, repair and sell. Lucky us, we were the last ones in our complex to sell. The next winter we decided to rent my husbands Son's place, which was just across from our old one. Well we found out fast, there is nothing like having your own. Since everything in Florida was so expensive at the time, we decided to go just over the state line into Brunswick-Georgia. (the temps are just 5 degrees colder then Daytona beach ) We found a most adorable little villa, brand new, two bedrooms with a sun room and the price was right. So here we are three years later. Since we have kids and grand kids here in the northeast and down in sunny Florida, we compromise and spent the holidays in Pa. one year and the next in Georgia. This is the year to spend the holidays in Georgia . Jerry's Son and family live three hours from us in Orlando fl. so we will spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with them. We have been in the process of closing down the house here all week. This Sunday morning we are outta here. It takes us 11 hours to drive from here to Brunswick. Not looking forward to the drive, always so thankful to arrive at our destination. We will stay until March or April and head back to Pa. Jer and I are really enjoying our new location, lots of places to explore. The best part is, we escape the harsh winters in the northeast, right now it is 28 degrees brrrrrrrrrrr!

Fun Monday

Today's Fun Monday Hostess is the Talented Journalist misanthrope , her assignment is,

Do you have a piece of jewelry or other item that holds a great personal significance for you, and that you wear or keep with you everyday? Show a photo of your Talisman and tell us why it is so important to you.

I have three pieces of jewelry that I hold close to my heart (besides my wedding ring). The first is a necklace that belonged to my Grandmother, it is a black onyx with a small pearl in the middle. I really don't think it is worth much in value, but it is very sentimental to me. Even though I don't wear it everyday, when I do, I think of my dear sweet Grandmother

The second piece of jewelry is the first ring that my Husband gave me when we were dating.

It is a heart shaped sapphire with small diamonds surrounding it. Not to mention it's also my birth stone. Besides my wedding ring, this is the ring I wear the most.

The third piece of jewelry is a bracelet that was given to me by my "Secret Sister" at our church. It says "friends in Christ are friends forever" I wear this bracelet quite a bit and get a lot of compliments on it. It makes me feel close to the Lord.

Christmas in November

I thought I would share my thoughts on this and see what you all think. Last week November 5, I saw my first Christmas commercial on TV. Then I turn on my radio, station 101.5 the rose and what do I hear -- that's right Christmas music. When you go into the stores, is it weird to you to see Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations in one isle then Christmas trees decorated in the next. It makes me feel a little anxious, like OMG, I better start my Christmas shopping. That is exactly how the retailers want us to feel. Don't get me wrong, I do love to listen to Christmas music, but by the time we get to Christmas day we are all pretty sick of hearing them. Why does it have to be this way, it never used to. I just want to enjoy Thanksgiving without feeling like a ticking time bomb. The month of December is like a frenzy for everyone, getting the decorations out, shopping for gifts, sending out cards, making cookies, going to parties, wrapping the gifts, preparing the Christmas day meal and on and on and on! Maybe we should have a two month celebration so we can get it all in and actually enjoy it. The celebration of the birth of Christ has become so commercialized that the real meaning has taken a back seat! Just my thoughts, how do you feel about it??

The Littlest Couch Potato

As I was watching Gabby and Holly yesterday morning, after eating their breakfast they went into the living room to play. I cleaned up the kitchen and went to check on them. Gabby was playing nicely with the blocks, but I didn't see Holly right away. I looked to my right and there she was, sitting in Grandpa's usual seat and fixated on her Sesame Street Hero "Elmo" or as Holly would call him - "Melmo". I thought Oh my goodness we have another couch potato!
They start out young don't they? At least Sesame Street is educational!

Fun Monday

I would like to salute all the veterans out there that served in the Military, and the ones that are still serving. My Dad served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War, he was injured and received the "Purple Heart", sadly he is no longer with us. Both of my Brothers served in the Army, one during peace time and the other during the Vietnam War. My husband served four years in the Navy, he went in when he was only 17 yrs old, his Mom had to sign for him, this was the case with my oldest brother also. All three of my husbands children have served in the Military, his son was in the Marines, his youngest daughter was in the Army and his oldest daughter is making a career serving in the Air Force. She is on her third tour in the middle east, two in Iraqi and now in Afghanistan. This is the most dangerous place in the world right now and we pray for her safety. These men and woman are to be commended for their brave commitment to protect our country. Don't forget to display your flag on tuesday!

Proud to be an American

Today is a historic day in The USA. It's election day. We have the freedom to vote for the person of our choice. We get to voice our opinion as to who we think will lead our country in a good direction with Grace, Dignity, Wisdom and Allegiance. This election is expected to be the biggest turnout in many, many years. Our Country has taken a step back from it's basic values that our fore fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence . It's time to put things back on the right track. May the Best Man win! God Bless the USA!

Fun Monday

Our hostess for Fun Monday this week is Beedancer Her assignment is write why you blog, how you got started or why and why do you keep it up! Also, post a picture of one person/place/thing that symbolizes the town or area you live in.

I have only been blogging since September 13, 2008. My Niece in-law over at Nine acres has been blogging for some time now, and I have been following hers. Next, My daughter The church Lady started her blog and I enjoy hers. One day as I was viewing one of the blogs, I just happen to click on "create blog". I figured it didn't hurt to try it, up until then, I did not think I was computer literate enough to do a blog. Well here I am and loving every minute of it. The blogging bug has bitten me, my hubby says I need "Bloggers anonymous" is there such a thing? It has been so much fun visiting the different blogs and seeing their perspective on life. Now my other daughter count your blessings has jumped on the band wagon as well as my son-in-law The Freedom Writer. We have become a blogging family that is for sure. I think it is a good way for friends and family to stay in touch besides e-mail. My computer skills have soared and I'm thinking, why didn't I do this a long time ago. I intend to keep on blogging as long as I can.

The things that symbolize Hanover today is the diverse healthy mix of manufacturing, trade and agriculture. It's a fitting tribute to the strong work ethic and dedication of its earliest settlers, the Germans. Hanover is named for Hanover, Germany. On Nov 18, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln stopped in Hanover on his way to Gettysburg (18 miles away) to deliver his most famous speech The Gettysburg address. Hanover is one of the largest retail areas in Pennsylvania and one of the largest manufacturing regions. Hanover also bears another distinction, it is the "snack food capital" home to nearly one dozen brands, including Utz potato chips and Snyder's pretzels.

Your Vote Matters

Hey all you American Citizens out there. Are you ready for election day on Tuesday Nov 4?
What a great country to live in and to enjoy so many freedoms.
We must heed the warning of Franklin D. Roosevelt, our 32ND president,

LET US NEVER FORGET THAT

GOVERNMENT IS OURSELVES AND
NOT AN ALIEN POWER OVER US.
THE ULTIMATE RULERS OF OUR
DEMOCRACY ARE.......THE VOTERS
OF THIS COUNTRY.

Sir Edmund Burke said,
THE ONLY THING NECESSARY FOR
THE TRIUMPH OF EVIL IS FOR GOOD
MEN TO DO NOTHING

When a vote is cast to reflect God's moral principles, we are loving god and our neighbor.

Celtic Thunder

OMG I'm smitten! I caught this group on PBS last year and haven't been able to get them out of my mind. They are from Ireland and Scotland they sing so beautiful together, each one of them perform a solo and each of their voices are quite distinct. If you like Celtic Music complete with bagpipes, you will like this group. Oh, did I mention they are "Hoties" click on Celtic Thunder and see for yourself. I just bought one of their C.D.'s at Wal-mart "Celtic thunder act two," you wont be disappointed.
