RAK Part 1 n 2
JILL is our fun hostess this week...and since this is RAK..(Random Act of kindness ) week..she has challenged us in two parts. This is part 1
For February 15th, please tell about something nice someone has done for you, or an act of kindness you witnessed a loved one perform, without being asked. It can be lately, or years ago, but something that touched your heart, and that you remember for that reason. Feel free to tell several stories if you wish, but remember, this is not YOUR RAK, it’s one that was performed for you or in your presence .
We were very lucky...to be on the receiving end of an RAK that was just two months ago!
Just 10 days before Christmas...our area in Hanover Pa. got 16 inches of snow dumped on us. I am the one who usually does the shoveling since my hubby had a heart attack back in 1996. When the snow had stopped...I knew I had a lot of work cut out for me , since our driveway is 20ft wide n 50ft long. After going out and shoveling for about an hour..I came in to rest a little and the phone rang..Praise the Lord...it was my Daughter "The Church Lady" telling me that her hubby was coming over in an hour with his snow blower to dig us out! What a life saver he was that day...This is not the first time our SIL has come to our rescue.. two weeks ago my daughter went to check on our house for us(since we are wintering in the south) and our furnace was not working right...welllll SIL went over n resolved the problem. We are so very blessed to have such nice SIL's (our other SIL has done yard work for us also)! How lucky can we B!
I might add that both of my lovely Daughters are always there for us and give of their time to help us out without being asked! Stayed tuned for "RAK part 2 next monday. Thanks for hosting Jill. Now go see the list to read about all the other RAK's

A Little Winter Humor we can all Enjoy
Here's another little chuckle for U!I rear-ended a car this morning... So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car.
You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny?
Yeah, well I couldn't believe it... he was a DWARF!!!
He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted,
'I AM NOT HAPPY!'
So, I looked down at him and said,
'Well, then which one are you?'
And then the fight started...

Beating Cabin Fever
The Church Lady who happens to be my lovely Daughter, is our gracious host this week...here is her challenge...
How do you beat the doldrums when you are stuck in the house either because it is too cold or too hot outside? Do you read? Cook? Complete a home improvement project? Watch movies? Scrapbook? Please share your ideas
Boy do I ever hate the winter months....being cooped up the house drives me up a wall. I try to get out each day for a few hours and that does help...but lots of times its bad weather like rain or snow or blustery wind. Those are the days I love to get into my creative mode and work on my current scrapbook, which is our vacations for the past 3 years. I set up all my equipment so its right at my finger tips. It may take an hour to do one page depending on how detailed I want it to be. (sorry for the grainy photos...had the wrong setting on my camera)
When I am not scrapbooking...I am curled up with a good book...below are the two latest ones I have read. The Timekeeper is a moving story about a young boy who was labled stupid and overcame his learning disabilities. The next book I won from one of our fellow blogger's Jan... This book is also about a young boy with Autism who forms a special bond with a goldern retriever.
So thats how I beat the winter blues...go see what the others do.click here. Thanks again for hosting Kelly!

Oh...The Spanish Moss!
The Story of Spanish Moss
Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is an air-feeding plant or epiphyte found mainly upon cypress, gum trees, oaks, elms, and pecan trees in South Louisiana and Florida. It is not a parasite and does not live off the trees upon which it grows, nor is it harmful to the trees. It has been noticed, however, that its presence on pecan trees tends to reduce the yield, owing, no doubt, to the fact that to some extent it shadows the buds of the fruit.
When the French first came to Louisiana they asked the Indians what this hair-like plant was and were told that it was "tree hair," or 'Itla-okla," as they called it. The French thought it reminded them of the long black beards of the Spanish explorers who had come before them, and advised the Indians that a better name was "Spanish Beard, " or "Barbe Espagnol. " The Spaniards, consider- ing this a term of ridicule, asserted that a more appropriate name was "Cabello Francés," or "French Hair." The Indians thought "Barbe Espagnol" sounded better and for many years Louisiana moss was referred to only as "Spanish Beard." But this name did not last; it seemed too ridiculous. The accepted name became Spanish moss.
The Area in Which Moss Grows
This moss grows in the area comprising the extreme southern portion of Virginia and the Gulf Coast country from Florida to Texas in varying quantities. But its yield in commercial quantities is in the lower Mississippi Valley, and especially in the swamp lands of Louisiana and Florida or where the rainfall is heavy. Louisiana has an annual average precipitation of about 56 inches, and Florida has nearly as much. While high temperatures and high rela- tive humidity are favorable to the growth of moss, it can stand extremes of cold and drought for long periods.
Propagation
Spanish moss is not propagated by seeds but by fragments or festoons. These fragments are carried from tree to tree by birds and the winds. Birds frequently use strands of moss in building their nests, and in this way distribute the festoons. Evergreen trees seldom have moss on them, for the green leaves tend to ward off the festoons carried by the winds or dropped by birds. In the fall and winter when the trees lose their leaves, fragments of moss attach themselves to the bark. A moss which springs from a festoon or fragment grows to a great length, often reaching 10 to 20 feet. In the early summer this plant produces a very small yellow flower, hardly visible to the naked eye. Moisture and dust from the air produce all the nourishment necessary to keep the plant alive and growing. The plant absorbs water readily; it is, in fact, about twenty-five percent water.

Jan's Movie Reviews
Sayre is once again our fun hostess this week and here is a very different challenge.......
Let us participate in our own Fun Monday-sort of way. I want you to think about the movies that you OWN. Not movies you've seen, but the ones you felt strongly enough to go out and buy. You will be your very own awards committee, awarding your movies an Oscar in the following categories
For the past 14 years the next three movies have been played the most in my home, so I thought it was only fair to present them with a special entertainment award.
Barney and friends helped me keep my sweet grand daughters in one place for at least 30 minutes at a time. It all started with Carley...going on 14 yrs ago. She was the first to watch this funny purple dinosaur, then it was Casey, then came Gabby and now its down to Holly 3yrs of age. We are still watching the same video all these years. Its funny...if you watched American Idol last week...one of the kids that starred on that show was auditioning. I give Barney the Purple Dinosaur the Grandmothers helper with kids award! 3rd place

Lets move onto getting a little older...now the girls in the same order as above became glued to the TV, watching this movie..."Barbie The Nutcracker" they would sit mesmerized watching Barbie and the sugar plumb fairies dance. What little girl doesn't love Barbie! The Grandmothers keep kids occupied for at least 1 hour award goes to this movie...2nd place

Last but not least.....ET gets the # 1 top Movie award. This movie is a classic and has been entertaining kids n Adults for many many years. I myself could sit and watch this movie over n over again.
Jer n I enjoy going to the movies and renting them for home viewing. We just really never felt like we had to buy a movie that we already watched. The ones above were donated by daughter #1 to keep at my house when the kids came over. Now go see what the rest of our movie goers have to say.. Thanks for hosting Sayre.
