On this day Dec 15, 1954.... my Dad passed away. I remember it well...my sisters 5th grade teacher(I was in third grade) gave us a ride home that day, we normally walk. My Dad's appendix had burst ed about a week before and he was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, "Peritonitis" sit in and took his life. He was only 34 years of age....we were living with my grandparents at the time..my parents were trying to save money to buy their own home. Leaving my Mom a widow at the young age of 33 with five little ones to raise, she dug in and did what she had to do. Mom was a hard worker and provided us a normal home and upbringing (with the help of my Grandparents). She gave up any kind of social life to devote her time to us kids. This time of year is always a little sad for me. As I grew up..not having a Dad was a big missing piece in my life. I often wondered how life would have been if he lived. My Mom also passed away in December. So sometimes its hard to focus on the festivities when your missing loved ones. I love you Mom n Dad and you will always have a big piece of my heart!

What a lovely post and tribute to your mom and dad. I never got to know grandpa, but I have many good memories of grandma and I often think of her.
Wow!! He was so young. Your Mom must have been a very strong woman.
Obviously,I never met your father, but have heard stories from your brother. I miss Grandma Millie, though. She always loved a visit from her great grandkids!
I have a hard time in December missing my loved ones too. It is a bittersweet time.
I miss Grandma a lot. She was quite the unusal kind of grandmother. She liked her Miller Lite and always loved hearing a good joke...even if it had swearing in it.
