What the "H" is going on!!!!
I am writing this in red because that's what I am seeing now! After watching the news today..I am beside myself about the mammogram thing. Now they are saying that women should not start getting Mammo's until they are fifty, unless they have a family history. I have been getting a Mammo since I was forty under the guidelines twenty years ago. Soooo, now I guess its been a total waste of time.....I am at the point that I no longer believe Doctors and ready to say "F" them all. I ask this...is it because of cost...and are the insurance companies at the bottom of this? I would not be surprised. To all my lady friends out there...what do you think about it???

I think it's the Obama Administration. ;0) I have only had one mammo so far...
I'm confused. Healthcare is so frustrating sometimes. I just wish they would make up their minds.
We have stopped believe Doctors unless it is something serious or we can't kick it the natural way. We started doing things that way about 2 years ago maybe 3years ago. The kids haven't gotten sick but maybe once or twice and when they did it was gone within 24 hours. They haven't had to miss school or anything. As far as Mammo's go I am personally not old enough for one yet but they tell me that I should check myself cause my Grandmother had breast cancer. I found it easier to ask my hubby to check cause I get kinda paranoid from time to time and he seems to like the feel of them so figure why not have him do the dirty work and get a massage of the chest at the same time.
I am 37, and last year at 36 I started demanding "mams". My aunt was diagnosed with Breat cancer last year, and I will not take a chance. Everything is screwed up. My hubby's health insurance at work was changed to 2 plans. "Pay out your nose for crap" or "Don't pay out your nose and still get crap". I pay a boatload for my med ins., and after seeing what they offer on his plan, I will never gripe again.
Hello my friend! Sorry I've been scarce but I have been thinking of you.
I loved your Fun Monday treasured item!! How wonderful, and functional too!
About the mammograms - yikes. I don't even pretend to know all the details, but to restrict mammograms to age 50+ because of concerns over false positives? I'd rather find out that that "something" was "nothing", than not know that "something" was there at all. If that makes sense *sigh*
You can thank the prez and his reforms for that Im sure. I just find it odd that my co-pays stayed the same fore years and all of a sudden they'll be jumping $5 per visit by next year. What changed? Look at the goverment leaders...
If you want you and your doctor to make these decisions then you should oppose government healthcare.
And you should DEMAND that the federal government push for more competition for your healthcare insurance dollars(compete across state lines), more tort reform, and shifting the tax break from businesses to families.
I saw this report in the paper today and am confused as well. Personally, I'll continue to get yearly mammos especially if they're covered by my insurance. The only negative I coulld think of would be overexposure to x-rays, but aside from teeth don't feel like that's an issue for me. I'm even more puzzled about this task force discouraging breast self exams. How could that possibly hurt anything? My doctor is a breast cancer survivor and she gets on my case all the time about not doing BSEs.
As a nurse with a family history of breast cancer, I'M STILL GETTING MY MAMMOGRAMS.
And most physicians and oncologists especially are outraged at this bizarre announcement.
I, too, believe that this is indicative of the "cost saving measures" that come with "universal health care".
Forget this "study". Listen to your personal physician. SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Love Ya,
Stephanie, RN
