Jer and I are on a little getaway vacation down here in the beautiful Brunswick Golden Isles Ga. area. On Sunday we decided to drive down to a quaint little town called Darien, its 20 miles north of here. We lucked out...there was much happening there over the weekend. It was the 43rd celebration of "The Blessing of the Fleet". Georgia is noted for their sweet juicey white shrimp. Alot of people who live in this area, make their living by going out on the shrimp boats for the daily catch. Over 20,000 people attend this 3 day event every year. There are lots of food vendors, music and crafts to enjoy also. A balmy breeze was blowing with 75 degrees and sunny, you can't get much better than that! Here are a few photos to share of this event!
Looking down from the bridge
The crowd on the bridge!
Just a few of the Shrimp boats being blessed! There were a total of 20!
Waiting their turn to be blessed!
Awesome live oak trees with the spanish moss...these trees are over 100 years old!
"Jer Bear"
Gorgeous blue sky and warm sun...a perfect day!

Looks like a very cool event -- and the weather looks gorgeous. Great photos. :)
That does look like a quaint town and a fun festival. What do they do to bless the ships?
What a great thing to see. The townsfolk supporting their shrimp fishermen!
It sure looks warm and sunny there. You are right, Darien is a quaint little town. Next time we're in GA, we'll have to make Darien one of our places to visit.
There's a great restaurant between Darien and Brunswick. I'm trying to remember the name. It's seafood buffet, we haven't been in a few years but it was wonderful then.
Of course had to look it up.

Another one King and Prince on St. Simons.
They both have wonderful seafood, Pelican Point is casual, whereas King and Prince is sorta upscale.
A series! You document this annual event very well with this nice variety of shots. Well done.
I love your photos! Thanks for sharing.
What a great day. I hope you a chance to taste test some of that shrimp!
Finally you get to enjoy some sunshine! I'm afraid I'm one of the few who don't care for shrimp, and some other critters.
Those are some fabulous photos. Makes me want to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the surroundings.
I've never heard of this event, but sounds like a great plan. Love the pics!
