Its All About Cars

Sayre is hosting this week and this is her challenge ..................
I want to know your car history. What was your first car? Which was your favorite car? And what are you driving now - and why?

Jeez...I had to put on my thinking cap to remember my first car...or the first car I ever drove. I was 20 years old when I got my drivers license back in 1968. The first car I owned was a 62 Chevy Impala. It was white with blue interior. It had its share of problems...like dead batteries, engine problems and all the stuff that comes with improper maintenance..I knew nothing of how to take good care of a car. Through the years it was a string of used cars as that was all the budget would allow. The first brand new car I owned was a 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix...it was a two tone gray and boy was it a good looking car...I thought I died an went to heaven. Along comes 1988 and I was once again a single woman...it was time for me to make a statement....I bought me a 1988 Chrysler Le Baron...it was bright Red...was I ever the cats meow...and did I ever make a statement...after two speeding tickets I realized that red cars are targeted for speeding. Along comes 1995 and time to change over to a Japanese made car...let me introduce you to my brand new beige Nissan Sentra. This car shows my maturity....I now own a four door sedan that would soon become known as "The Granny Mobile" this was a great running little car and was very reliable, it was easy to keep clean too after hauling around little rug rats! I swore I would never go back to American made vehicles. Enter 2005, my Granny mobile was getting up in age and my air compressor went up...so it was once again time for a new car.... I stayed with made in Japan brand and bought a 2005 Toyota Corolla, this time I picked a silver color with gray interior. I have to say...this has been one of the best cars I have owned to date....it sits up higher, is compact and easy in n out, has lots of room for four or five passengers, and best of all it gets 35 mpg on the highway which is a big savings on today's gas prices! So there is my history of cars....I am really not a big car fan...so I had to ask my hubby the names of some previous ones. If it gets me to where I am going..that is all I care about. Looks really don't enter into it. AS you can see...I've come a long way baby!

I love that impala! Of course, I'm a sucker for older cars - they're just so full of character! That said, you really can't beat a Japanese car for mpg and reliability.

Wow. I can't picture you driving that old thing! Your granny mobile has been a very reliable car and you can't beat the gas mileage!

Baby you were born to run--either in that--I think we said "tough" back in the late 60s--Impala or the Granny Mobile. I sympathize about the neglect of car maintenance. Philospohy was that if you gave cars regular attention they just came to expect it! That's changed now since I want to drive my retirement car for many, many years. And the Japanese mfgs understand about drivers needing to feel like they're not sitting in a hole to drive. I like that same high up feeling I get in my Toyota Scion.

The trouble is the cars have other names in the States and these big "ships" never existed in Europe the streets are too narrow and the gas was always very expensive compared to the States. But I know the Toyota Corolla, that's the same name here and it's a very well liked car.

Love the name 'Granny mobile'! 35mpg! I got that from my 1st car (Morris Marina) and we called it a 'gas guzzler...
My current car averages 50+ to the gallon and the 'shopping trolley' Yaris is even more frugal.

I learned to drive on a 55 and a 57 chevy ...
the 57 belonged to my brothers friend - and he was one of the volunteers to teach "little sister" I was secretly in love with him and the car. I wonder what ever happened to him.....
