Nothing like long time Girlfriends

This Christmas has been a great time for me this year. I had lots of time with my two daughters and four gran daughters, got to visit with my siblings and last but not least...five of my dearest girlfriends. We have been hanging out since high school back in the 60's. When we get together there is always lots of laughter and this time was no different. Now that we are seniors there are lots of "Senior moments" to laugh about. Girls...if you are reading this blog...Thanks for the laughs and the memories! Until the next time we meet....Love U all!

Whats your Favorite Christmas Card?

FUN MONDAY

Faye is our Fun hostess this week and she wants us to share our Christmas card favorites.
What can I say about my favorite Christmas cards....let me see. The first photo depicts the regular cute greeting cards... Have you ever noticed that they all have snow. Now..not everyone lives where it snows...I have to admit that I do equate Christmas with cold n snow, but that is because I grew up in the North east.
This next photo depicts the cards that show the real meaning of Christmas...that is..if your a Christian. I do love these cards and try to keep the Christ child's birth front and center.
I love getting the photo greeting cards....its a great way of seeing friends and family. The group photo that you see is none other then the family of Jan n Jer. The one below is my youngest daughter and her family. On the left is my long time girlfriends three adorable granddaughters. This seems to be the trend in Christmas cards lately.

I am not receiving or sending as many cards as I used to. With email and unlimited phone service I am able to stay in touch and can wish my friends and loved ones a Merry Christmas with an e-card or phone call. I have a feeling that mailing Christmas cards is fast becoming a thing of the past. BTW....TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF WINTER...BRRRRRRRR. Thanks for hosting Faye...now go see what the rest of the gang has to say!

Sweet Spicy Mustard

This recipe was given to us by a good friend of my Hubby's about 9 years ago. I have been making it every year since. I love to make it and give as a gift.. everyone loves it. It is very easy to make. Beef stick/summer sausage, cheese and pretzels are great to serve with this mustard.

Sweet n Spicy Mustard
4 Tbls dry mustard
2 Tbls flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
dash of red pepper n Worcestershire sauce
4 beaten eggs
1/2 cup vinegar
mix all together in a sauce pan or double boiler...stir constantly until thick...remove from heat and add 2 Tbls of butter....stir until smooth. makes 2 cups. Enjoy!

Remembering My Dad and Mom

On this day Dec 15, 1954.... my Dad passed away. I remember it well...my sisters 5th grade teacher(I was in third grade) gave us a ride home that day, we normally walk. My Dad's appendix had burst ed about a week before and he was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, "Peritonitis" sit in and took his life. He was only 34 years of age....we were living with my grandparents at the time..my parents were trying to save money to buy their own home. Leaving my Mom a widow at the young age of 33 with five little ones to raise, she dug in and did what she had to do. Mom was a hard worker and provided us a normal home and upbringing (with the help of my Grandparents). She gave up any kind of social life to devote her time to us kids. This time of year is always a little sad for me. As I grew up..not having a Dad was a big missing piece in my life. I often wondered how life would have been if he lived. My Mom also passed away in December. So sometimes its hard to focus on the festivities when your missing loved ones. I love you Mom n Dad and you will always have a big piece of my heart!

The songs you Love to Hate

FUN MONDAY

cynical girl is hosting this week and she has a fun challenge for us....here it is......

A big part of many holidays is the music, but none more so than Christmas, whether or not you celebrate. It’s everywhere–on the radio, TV, in the stores. While many of the songs are lovely and happy and a part of the holiday tradition, a few songs just drive you insane after awhile. Especially since they tend to be repeated over and over, day after day.
So, my question is this: What Christmas (or other holiday) song would you prefer never to hear again, and why? It could be one song in particular, or songs by a certain singer, or a version of a song you usually enjoy that grates on your nerves. We promise not to judge. It’s your chance to vent.
If you have a YouTube version of the offenders handy so we can share your pain, all the better.
Well, I thought long and hard on this challenge and here is what I came up with. The Twelve days of Christmas...this song to me is soooooo over done.. I used to like it went it first came out..waaaaay back when, but over the years it started getting on my nerves...now when it comes on the radio, I switch to a different station right away. Think about it...this song makes no sense...who wants all that stuff they sing about??? Click on the link below to see for yourself..
Thanks again to Cynical Girl for hosting this week. Now go see what is getting on other peoples nerves.
