Friday's Fences ~ # 26

 Now this is a fence that has a real purpose...it's a long way down if you should fall. This was taken in Savannah Ga. we were at the river front n had to walk down steep steps to get to the river. I looked up n saw this and thought it was a good photo op. I applied a texture from picnik too!

It's Official

Spring has sprung....seems very early for most of us. At least 2 to 4 weeks in some areas! Just pray we dont get a cold spell to ruin all the blooms!

ERIN GO BRAGH

HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY MY DEAR FRIENDS...HERE IS A SIMPLE IRISH RECIPE TO ENJOY!   This cabbage shot was taken at the farmers market in Darien Ga.

                                             Easy Irish Colcannon
Ingredients

• 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
• 1 head cabbage, chopped
• 1 bunch green onions, chopped
• 1/4 cup butter, softened
• 1/2 cup half-and-half cream
• salt and black pepper to taste

Directions

1. Place the potatoes, cabbage, and green onions into a large sauce pan, fill with water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes.
2. Drain the vegetables and place into a large bowl. Mash the potatoes and vegetables with the butter using a fork until the mixture is chunky, pouring in half-and-half gradually as you mash. Season with salt and pepper, and serve.

* I made this tonight n added about 1/4 tsp of nutmeg...just sprinkle over the mixture n blend it in! It really gives this dish a nice flavor! I served it with a ham steak. It was a perfect meal for St Patricks day!

Willies Wee Nee Wagon

Jer and I have been wintering here in the Brunswick Golden Isles area in Ga  for 6 years now. There is a little carry out place just two miles from our place that we finally got around to trying out. After hearing several folks rave over Willies famous pork chop sandwich n their sweet tea, we decided it was time to see for ourselves. We were not disappointed...the sandwich was very lean, not greasy and full of flavor. The tea was good also...their secret is  they use brown sugar instead of white.  Willies   has been in this location for over 30 years, it is a family run business. Here are a few pics, it is like a blast from the past. They also are famous locally for their wieners with slaw topping ..my next pick.

                                  Jer's next pick is the Big Willie Steak with lots of fried  onions

 If you love good hot dogs with lots of toppings, this is the place to go. Here is one of the many testimonials.

Tree Spirit

This is one of the several Tree Spirits you will find on St.Simon's Island Ga.  It is the only one I have found so far. They are scattered throughout the Island and have clues to their whereabouts. One day I am going to go on a big hunt n find them all.

Chili Time

    
Fun times today...Jer n I went to the Chili cook off on St Simon's Island. Let me tell you it was shoulder to shoulder people. Everyone got there at the same time because it was calling for rain in the afternoon.  After walking around sampling over 20 different kinds of chili, we got to vote for the best three entries. The clouds rolled in and the drops of rain started to come down right as we got to our car!  Can you say bloated!!!! That's how we felt the rest of the day!!! Thank God for "TUMS"

The kids had a good time dancing to the music and climbing on the oak trees! It was a fun event for   everyone!
