This is the kind of gate n fence I remember having in the house I grew up in. We lived in Baltimore City and had an alley in the back of the house. All up n down the alley, you saw this type of fencing! Whenever I see one like this..it's a blast from the past for me!

Thanks for posting today...hope you come back next week!
That's a great memory to go along with this lovely photo. I am going to try and share a photo one of these days. I always enjoy looking at what people have to share in this meme. Have a great weekend.
My youngest brother lives in a nice, but older neighborhood and all the fences are like this. Chain link type. In my area, all the fences are now wooden privacy fences.
I wanted to keep an old gate just like that one when we moved here. It was laying on the ground but hubby had it cleared away and taken to the tip before I could rescue it. I don't think the argument for keeping it would have been worth it.
i like how rustic it is.
ReplyDeleteEven before I read your description was thinking the same thing! Very common fence in "our" era and still much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThe more rustic, er, rusty, the better!

ReplyDeleteYes, that fence type looks very familiar!
ReplyDeleteIt may be old and rusty, but still adds character to the old fence.
ReplyDeleteWe had a gate like that when I was growing up too. I have one kind of like it, but I need to replace the netting on it. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny what memories we carry with us from childhood. It's wonderful that this fence brings those memories back for you!

ReplyDeleteSo much character in this weathered gate! It has charm and maybe a few stories to tell.

ReplyDeleteStill see a lot of similar old fences and gates in small country towns. Something nice and homely about them.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing fences like these when I was young, but haven't seen one in years. Nice find!
ReplyDeletei like it too, it's similar to what my grandparents had :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a neat looking old fence! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the old gate sagging a bit and enhanced with some mild rust. I'd like it in my back yard!
ReplyDeleteThe house where I grew up had a gate just like that one, albeit it somewhat better shape. Great find!
ReplyDeleteRusty and aged! They tell a story. If only we knew! Thanks for hosting J&J
