Whats in your Easter Basket

FUN MONDAY

wiscandy is our hostess this week and here is her assignment.....

The topic is Easter Baskets: Share a story, is it better to give or to receive, what would you like in yours?

Of course when I was a kid, my Easter Basket was filled with tons of candy and the same goes for my two daughters growing up. Now that I am grown up, I like to focus on the real meaning of Easter and give my thoughts and comments to the hero of the day and that is Jesus Christ. I think we can still have egg hunts and candy for the kids but we can give respect to the real reason we celebrate also.

FYI I am having a giveaway over at my blog.. sign up if you are interested.

The Big Giveaway

I found this over at Nine acres blog. I immediately signed up for hers, and I am hoping I will get 7 people to sign up for mine!
The first SEVEN people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For YOU.This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:- What I create will be just for you.- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!- You will receive your item before the end of the year.- You will have no clue what the item is going to be. It could be a story or poetry. It could be a piece of handmade jewelry or a cheesecake. I may draw, paint, collage or crochet something. I might bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange. The catch? Oh, the catch is that in order to receive a gift, you have to re-post this and make and send out seven surprises of your own, so if you aren't gonna follow through and make something for seven others, you get nothing from me. And you need to send me your mailing address!!Ready, set, create! :)

A Case of Computer Withdrawal

As most of you know, I came back to Pa. on March 8 from a three month stay in Brunswick Ga. I am so happy to be back to see my girls, I missed them so much. Jer did not come back with me, he stayed in Ga and Florida so he could umpire some college baseball games and celebrate grand daughter Brittny's B. day. He will return to Pa. the week of April 13th. Here is my problem, I am without a computer....Jer has it with him. Right now I am at my youngest daughters house using hers. That's what I have been doing and will continue for the next 3 weeks, going back and forth to both daughters houses to use their computers. Never did I ever dream that I would miss my own computer sooooo much! I know you should not wish your life away, but I cannot wait until Jer returns with our computer ( I miss him too, I might add). Before I left Ga. I scheduled a bunch of posts to come up just so I can stay in the groove, but I miss doing Fun Monday and being able to visit all my favorite blogs and leave comments. The good news is...I am getting my very own computer when Jer gets back and we will both have our own, YEAH!! CAN'T WAIT!! Meanwhile I will try to come and visit your blogs and comment when I can get it in. Hang in with me! I shall return!!!

Who knows What day this is?

Did anyone say Spring? That's right its the first day of Spring or the Vernal Equinox.

This season arrives during different parts of the year in the North and South of the world. Places, which are situated in the north experience the spring season from March to May while in the southern part of the world, September to November is the springtime. Vernal Equinox indicates the arrival of spring season while the Summer Solstice announces its departure.
Good Bye to Old man winter, although March and April can be pretty fickle as far as the weather goes. Just want it to be warm.

Happy St Patricks Day

Here are a few facts for you,

St. Patrick's Day honors St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. We celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17. Americans march in parades, dance the Irish jig and gather to sing Irish songs. People wear green in memory of Ireland, the Emerald Isle and wear shamrocks, clover with three leaves.
March 17 was not the day St. Patrick was born but the day he died. Even though we don't know the date of his birth, most scholars believe the year was 385 AD and the year of his death was 461 AD.

St. Patrick was born in Wales, studied religion to become a priest and then went to Ireland to teach the people about God. There are many wonderful stories about St. Patrick, some true and some not true.

The most famous legend is that he drove the snakes out of Ireland. This did not happen but the Irish will tell you that you cannot find a snake throughout the whole country of Ireland

Amazing Hummingbirds

This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This woman lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. She took the little red dish, filled it with sugar water and this is the result.
The woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana - she has been studying them daily and one morning put the cup from the feeder, with water in it, in her hand; as they had gotten used to her standing by the feeder they came over to her hand. She says in touching they are as light as a feather.

Dealing With Our Economic Stiuation

This week our Hostess is the fun loving sayre smiles and here is what she has to say...

I've heard on the news that we are facing our own "Depression" here in the states and foreign countries aren't immune from this either.

So here's your challenge:
What are you and your family doing to deal with the current economic situation on a personal level? Obama's got a plan for the nation, but how do you/will you deal with your own economic stress

The Great Depression took place from 1930 to 1939. During this time the prices of stock fell 40%. 9,000 banks went out of business and 9 million savings accounts were wiped out. 86,00 businesses failed, and wages were decreased by an average of 60%. The unemployment rate went from 9% all the way to 25%, about 15 million jobless people.

Does all this sound familiar? It is so close to what we are dealing with now in our country. They say history repeats itself every so many years. I am cautiously optimistic that the President can implement his plan. My husband and I feel very fortunate that this time in our life we can get through this rough patch. We saved our money and paid our house off and we have very little outstanding debt. Both of us have always worked hard and never lived beyond our means. Our pension and retirement plans have been put into a very conservative account. We give thanks everyday that we were able to retire and not have to worry about losing a job right now. I guess being raised in poor families, we learned at an early age to work hard and save our money. A good work ethic was instilled in us. I tell our grown kids to hold on to your hat..that this is just the beginning of a long hard time for us Americans. Sometimes, I don't think they can fully understand what is a head of them. We try to keep the faith and pray and give thanks for everyday we have. Thats all we can do at this point! It's a very scary time in our history.

A Mother/Daughter/Blogger weekend

I am so excited, both of my Daughters Kelly and Tracy are coming here to Brunswick Ga this Thursday for a long weekend. We are going to have some really nice weather too, the temps are going to be in the mid 70's. Its going to be a Mother -Daughter weekend for sure. They arrived in Jacksonville Fl. Airport at 2:30 pm right on time. After a 50 minute drive we were in Brunswick Ga.
After getting unpacked, we had our "Happy Hour" we love our wine and cheese! and just hung out for the evening... of course we had to watch "American Idol"
Friday we did a tour of Jekyll Island, did some beach combing and look what Tracy found, a sand dollar. Next we hopped on over to St. Simons Island, had lunch and did some shopping at all the cute little shops.

After our shopping spree, we hit the beach again. The weather was just fabulous, such a great day to just walk around and take in the sights. We left St. Simons and went downtown Brunswick to "1st Friday celebration" The first Friday of every month from 5pm -8pm all the shops have wine tasting and snacks, plus musicians performing up and down main street. It was really nice.

Saturday, we are off shopping again, only this time, its back to Jacksonville Fl. for a big Flea Market. They are very popular here in the south. It will be an early rise on Sunday to get started at 6am for our long drive back to Hanover Pa.

After our long drive, this is our final destination. The place where Jer and I spend most of the year. I love to sit in my rocker on the front porch in nice weather. Happy hour starts with a glass of wine in the evenings and a wave to the neighbors as they walk by.

A Fun, Weird, Laughable memory

Jo is our Gracious hostess this week and here is what she wants us to do

March 2nd is my Mom's birthday and was her mother's birthday as well. For this week's Fun Monday, tell me something fun about your mother and/or her mother. What fun, weird, laughable memories do you have of your Mom or your Grandma?

My Grandmother was also born on March 2 and my Mom was born on March 9. These two woman were my role models and heroes. Mom was a widow at the age of 34 with five children to care for. So we moved in with my grandparents. Mom went to work and Gram took care of getting us kids off to school each day. Mom was a hard worker and made us kids tow the line. She was fun loving also. There was always music in our house and on the weekends in between cleaning the house and other chores, we would take a break and Mom would join in and dance with me. She was a very good dancer, we would waltz around the living room. Our church started a teen center on Saturday nights and Mom helped out selling refreshments. All the kids would gravitate over and talk to her, she was a good listener. Gram was a character, she was very hospitable and made everyone feel so welcome in our home and there was always a ton of people there, mostly our friends would come and hang out. Since she lived during the great depression she saved everything, like the breads wrappers , she would rinse them out to reuse. When the bars of soap got down to little bits and pieces, she saved them all, put them together into one big blob, we used this to clean floors. During the winter months, she would heat a brick in the oven, wrap it in a towel and put it in her bed to warm it up. She drank warm water in a mason jar, this was suppose to help her indigestion and she knew no one else would drink out of her jar. She ran the house, did the laundry and prepared all the meals. I loved her soups and pies, but she cooked meat until it was like shoe leather ( had to make sure it was done). Gram lived to the ripe old age of 92. Mom lived until the age of 78. I learned so much from them and I know I am a better person for it. They are forever missed and always in my heart. Thanks Mom and Gram. BTW..my grandpop was a character also, but that is another story.

Welcome March

Well according to the weather forecast for today March 1, 2009, it looks like March is coming in like a Lion! The northeast is expecting snow and wind gust and the southeast is having heavy rain and winds. You know the old saying.... if March comes in like a Lion, it goes out like a Lamb. I'll take that. Since I am heading back to my home in Pa in another week, I will be praying for an early spring and some warm temps.
