Where is Everybody

Yesterday I was sitting on my porch enjoying the beautiful weather and I looked up to see this lone cloud in the sky. It just struck me funny because it was the only one anywhere to be seen.
The sky was a clear solid blue except for this one lonely little cloud. Just look how beautiful that sky is. Thank you Lord!

LOVE AND MARRIAGE 101

Our hostess this week is Hoosier Girl and this is what she has to say------

Here's my topic: Love and Marriage. I have been married twice, once for 14 years, once for a year (long story, for those of you who don't know me). And now I am mid-40s, involved with a wonderful man, contemplating marriage for a third time. So what I want to know is: what do you consider important to a good marriage or relationship? Tell us a story of something endearing about your marriage or your parents' marriage. Include any wedding pictures or images of love that remind you of what a good relationship should be.
I have been married twice, the first time lasted nineteen years. My high school sweetheart and myself married in 1967, we had two lovely daughters. Our relationship was always kinda rocky, we fought a lot and I don't really think either one of us was very happy throughout the years. But we kept shoving out problems under the rug and stayed together because of the girls. We grew apart and stopped being friends, so we decided to separate which led to divorce. It was a very hard adjustment but I made up my mind that I was going to make it and be happy. After three years of being single and having the time of my life going out dancing with friends and dating some very nice guys, I met my soul mate and now husband. We have been married now for almost twenty years (10/21/89) and are still very much in love. I have learned that to have a good marriage you must communicate and not try to change each other. Compromise is another important aspect. My hubby Jer is never judgemental and lets me be me. I do the same for him. We both are very considerate and respectful of one another. One of the things that we have in common and is how we met, is we love to dance. Our wedding was so much fun, we had a disc jockey who played the oldies and just about everyone there danced the night away.
To this day, we still can "cut a rug" but not as much as we used to (old age creeping up), sometimes a song will come on the radio and we will dance together wherever we are whether its in the living room, kitchen or outside. That is one thing we share and I think we always will. Oh BTW... our dance style is jitterbug. We laugh a lot also. Well Hoosier girl, I hope that some of the things I have listed that is good in my marriage will help you in your relationship.

We still enjoy our Love of dancing even after all these years

THEY'RE BACK

Now why would something thats kinda pretty and colorful cause some of us to almost have a nervous breakdown when we see it appear in our lush green lawn???? I think the only ones that love these "Dandy" litte yellow weeds are little children, they love to pick them and people who make Dandelion wine. Here is a recipe for those of you who would like to try your hand at making some homemade wine. It sounds good. And if you need some dandelions, come on over to my house, we have plenty.

Dandelion Wine

2 qts dandelion flowers
3 lbs granulated sugar
4 oranges
1 gallon water
yeast and nutrient
This is the traditional "Midday Dandelion Wine" of old, named because the flowers must be picked at midday when they are fully open. Pick the flowers and bring into the kitchen. Set one gallon of water to boil. While it heats up to a boil, remove as much of the green material from the flower heads as possible (the original recipe calls for two quarts of petals only, but this will work as long as you end up with two quarts of prepared flowers). Pour the boiling water over the flowers, cover with cloth, and leave to steep for two days. Do not exceed two days. Pour the mixture back into a pot and bring to a boil. Add the peelings from the four oranges (again, no white pith) and boil for ten minutes. Strain through a muslin cloth or bag onto a crock or plastic pail containing the sugar, stirring to dissolve. When cool, add the juice of the oranges, the yeast and yeast nutrient. Pour into secondary fermentation vessel, fit fermentation trap, and allow to ferment completely. Rack and bottle when wine clears and again when no more lees form for 60 days. Allow it to age six months in the bottle before tasting, but a year will improve it vastly.

67 and still going strong

Today is my better half and soul mates Birthday. He is 67 and still busy as ever. I admire this man for his determination to overcome many aches and pains through
exercise. There is never a complaint out of his mouth. He is like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going. He is also a Brainiac, after receiving his BS he is now working on his Masters degree in Safety and Health. After this, he may even go for his Doctorate. This man loves a challenge. Happy Birthday "JER BEAR" may you have many more to come. All my love forever......JAN xoxoxoxo

What Inspires You

Sayre is our gracious hostess this week and here is her assignment.

Take your camera to work and take pictures of the things that inspire you as you work or that inspires your coworkers. Ask them (or yourself) what it is about that particular object or picture that makes the work day seem a little easier. If you don't work outside the home, take a picture of the thing that helps you get through the day and inspires you to have the best day you can.
Well, I am one of those lucky retiree's, it has been eleven years since I have worked and I have loved every minute of my retirement. Here are a few things that inspire me on a daily basis.
My sleeping angel is what I see when I wake up in the morning and go to bed at night. She looks so peaceful and it gives me peace just to look at her. My oldest daughter gave her to me for Christmas about seven years ago.
Just to see mother nature at work is such an inspiration to me, feeding and watching the birds bring me great Joy.
To see a flower burst into bloom is another inspirational moment for me.

I am so glad that I have been able to slow down to enjoy and appreciate all the little things that surround me everyday. Of course my four darling granddaughters inspire me to be the best person I can be also.

Now go on over and see what inspires the rest of the group click here. Thanks for hosting Sayre

Grandparents day and Tea Party

On Friday it was Grandparents day at my gran daughter Casey's school, she is in the fifth grade. Our visit was from 9am to 11am. Afterwards, five of us grandmothers left the kids at school and hooked up with our daughters and went to tea. This is the third time I have been at this tea room and it is one of my favorites. They give you so much food, six courses to be exact and the tea is excellent. The Victorian parlour is located in Spring Grove Pa. click to see more.

A New Home for Bob

My Brother Bob (aka..Grumpy) just moved into this building. Its his first time living by himself. It was an old manufacturing company that made tin cans...as you can see. This area called Canton, used to be nothing but manufacturing in the late 1800's. The photos below show what it has now become. All of the big buildings have been turned into apts. that actually have a water view of the Baltimore Harbor. There are streets full of town homes and most of them have build decks on top of the roofs so they can see the water. There are pubs and restaurants and quaint little shops on just about every corner. The history of Canton is listed below. If you ever come to Baltimore Maryland you may want to tour this charming historic place.

Once a booming hub of industry, Canton is now a trendy area for young urban professionals. Instead of foundries, warehouses and wharfs, you will now find a variety of restaurants, bars and nightclubs along the streets of Canton. The neighborhood is a melting pot -- a mixing of its industrial, blue-collar roots with the new "executive" face of the community. There is no better example of this blending than the American Can Company on Boston Street. Once a large canning facility, the rehabbed buildings now house chic restaurants and retailers and high-tech business. A short trip down O'Donnell Street from the Can Company leads to O'Donnell Square. The center of the square was once an open-air public market but now serves as a small patch of green in the dense urban jungle. Surrounding the square are a multitude of bars and restaurants as well as a few retail shops. This area truly caters to the local nightlife, offering something for everyone, whether you're looking to have a beer, sip some wine or drink-til-you-drop. The popularity of the establishments are evident to anyone trying to find a parking spot nearby
