Today is Fat Tuesday

What is Fat Tuesday?
Fat Tuesday is Mardi Gras, the festival New Orleans, Louisiana, is famous for. "Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday.
The annual festivities start on January 6, the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, when the three kings are supposed to have visited the Christ Child, and build to a climax on Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, which always occurs on the day before Ash Wednesday. The parties and parades will continue until Lent begins at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday.
Mardi Gras is a legal holiday in New Orleans. It is scheduled to occur 46 days before Easter. Since the actual date Easter occurs on changes yearly, Mardi Gras can happen on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9.
For two centuries it has been an annual event in New Orleans, except during the two World Wars. And thats the facts!

Show us your Kitchen Counter?
It's time for show and tell. What does your kitchen counter look like right now? (And no fair cleaning just for the picture!) Do you have any favorite or unusual items on your counter?
Everything I need is right here on my kitchen counter. My favorite, has to be my coffee pot, its old but we love it because its a thermal carafe, it keeps the coffee warm without cooking it and making it so strong.
In this photo, I love my little Yankee candle wax melt decoration. It was a house warming gift from my girlfriend. We are a bit of a neat nick, so our counter top looks like this all the time!
Now go over to Beyond my slab and see what the others say.

Good Bye Old Man Winter
Just two weeks ago it was in the low twenties here, everything was frozen . Now we are in full blown spring (sneezing, running nose, itchy eyes and all). The live Oaks and Georgia pines are driving me crazy! I am happy to be rid of the cold temperatures, but not looking forward to dealing with my seasonal allergies. AAAAAchoo--excuse me, have to go get a tissue. Have a great day my friends. Do any of you have allergies???

Show us your Feet
Our Hostess from Brussels/ Belgium Gattina has stepped up to the task for FM this week, here is here assignment. Please show us what you wear on your feet inside your home ! Do you wear slippers, flip flops, shoes or nothing ? just take a picture and show us your feet !
Well here we go, I wear slippers during my time in the house. One of my little quirks is, I can not stand to go bare foot on bare floors or outdoors. Blame it on my dear sweet Mother, she never allowed me or my siblings to go barefoot, we always had to wear shoes outside and slippers inside. So to this day, I can not stand my feet getting dirty. I fess up, I have boring feet! The photo below is the standard type of slipper I like to wear, ugly but they keep my feet warm and clean.
Now go and see what everyone else wears on their feet. click here!

Eight is Too Much

I just wanted to comment a little on the latest news. Its about the octuplets that were born in California last week. Is is just me or do you agree that this women is 'NUTS'! From what I understand she has a degree in early childhood development and is pursuing a Masters in child psychology. To bring 8 babies into this world by invitro is irresponsible and unfair to the innocent new Born's and also to her other six children, all under the age of six or seven. How does this woman intend to care for all of these kids???? Poor judgement on her part, has created a huge price tag in hospital bills and long term care of these babies. Guess who will wind up paying ----- your right -- the state of California. This has taken Invitro fertilization too far over the line. Something needs to be done NOW!!! I really don't think that God intended for women to give birth to a litter!!!!!! My heart goes out to these innocent little babies, they most likely will be facing a lot of health problems in the future. What are your thoughts on this???

Book Monday
OK, I know that pretty much all of you out there are bookworms. So for Fun Monday on 2nd February, firstly tell me what book you are reading now. What's it about? Are you enjoying it and why? If not, why not?And secondly, if you were to be stranded on a desert island, what one book would you take with you.
The book that I am reading right now is "The Shack" by William P Young. This is a fictional story about the loss of a young daughter. This book wrestles with the timeless question; where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain? It will definitely give you a new outlook in the way we view God the father, the son and the holy ghost. It is a must read for everybody.
My next book to read is listed below.
John Atkinson is the author of TIMEKEEPER, a magnificent book about a young boy who fights to overcome illiteracy. For more on this book click here.

Now to answer the question, What book would I take with me if I were stranded on a desert island? Take a look, see for yourself.
For more FM go on over here and see what others are reading.
